This project represents the female figure and how many women feel the need to blend in or hide themselves within society. I want to show femininity through this project. I also want to show what it is truly like being a women in today's society, with the constant fear of being seen as weak and unimportant, as most women are still seen today.
The canvas itself is fabric, so the first layer, watercolor, spreads and blends more than it would a typical canvas. I plan to add many more layers using mediums such as acrylic paint, embroidery, and pastels.

This is an observational drawing of a pair of vintage glasses. The glasses have nice designs on the frames and I wanted to accentuate that. I also added dimension by drawing the shadows and using different pencil weights. I've learned that the best way to draw realistically is by observation, looking at the physical object instead of drawing what I think it looks like. By doing this, I am giving the viewer a more realistic picture of the object.
These are female body figures sketched from observation. They show womens figures from the back. I chose these figures to practice sketching because my next project will be representing the female figure. I think that this is a very interesting perspective as I have never sketched from this perspective before. I will continue to draw from observation and increase my observational skills.
I worked on this project with some classmates, we were assigned the theme of local flavor. The project was supposed to be to design a Vans shoe with North Carolina Themes. Since the nc state fair comes to town every fall, we chose to make one shoe with roller coasters, made with shoelaces, to create a 3 dimensional roller coaster coming off of the shoe. We then added color to show the transition between morning, evening, and night. The state fair does fireworks each night as we drew them on the shoe on the darker area.
The second shoe represents North Carolina beaches. The sand is 3 dimensional with texture and the color of realistic sand. The lighthouses are cut out of paper and also come off of the shoe. The waves are curled in a realistic way and are also have texture. North Carolina is also known for Black Beards legend, so we made a pirate boat from paper to represent Black Beards pirate ship. |
